On 1st June of 2016, the Russian Fund for Childhood presented the medal Lev Tolstoy to Doctor Xavier Emmanuelli for its commitment to people in situations of exclusion and more specifically children and youth living on the street.
In the past, the gold medal Lev Tolstoy, established by the International Association of Children’s Foundations, was notably awarded to American physician Albert Sabin, developer of a vaccine against polio, and Mother Theresa of Calcutta, founder charity houses in India.
